PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the prestigious cup on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the final moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
