19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev claimed his first trophy for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally separating with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is his maiden title following the Rome competition and initial on a hard court from March of 2023.

Success also means the Russian has won 21 titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in that event earlier this year.

The player's retrieving approach and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had caused commentators to doubt if his skill to perform at the elite level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an improved service.

He came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The competitors swapped breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his first tour title, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent rescued four initial chances in a competitive third set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he earned the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent incapable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
