Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to begin their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem mismatched, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—used the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then settled his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants revenge.
- The adventurer has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a nasty location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the party enter areas they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:
- The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them few options but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Planners tables.
