The second-hand marketplace Members Voice Frustration Regarding Sizing Modifications
Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to products showing incorrect sizing.
The popular resale platform has altered its size classifications for women's and children's clothes without notifying all shoppers about the modification.
Digital Channels Response
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms claiming that product pages now present a modified sizing category versus the original listing due to the recalibration.
The company said the revised method more closely matches comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to examine their items and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, causing user dissatisfaction.
Measurement Approach Changes
Previously, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, like S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter and a range like S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - for example a size L was previously a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
User Stories
Frankie Bridger, who produces content about larger sizing, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were showing in the marketplace as measurements 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, located in England, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and selling on Vinted has been paramount following partial earnings loss," she said.
Platform Context
The platform boasts over 100 million members, including 18 million in the UK.
It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: earlier, the service retracted a modification to its shipping options after backlash from users.
